Apple Loses Over $1 Billion A Year On Streaming
According to a recent Reuters report, Apple is bleeding over $1 billion a year thanks to its streaming service, AppleTV+. The tech company has been spending around $5 billion a year on content since it launched Apple TV+, but it has caught much reaction. Their strategy of only having originals on the platform is taking a while to progress. To mitigate these losses, they spent around $500 million less last year. Despite having a growing subscriber base, the service is still facing challenges in achieving profitability. One of the main reasons is that the competition is fierce. Netflix has 300+ million subscribers and is growing rapidly. While Apple has not released an official amount of subscribers, many estimates it has around 40 million. While it has shows like Ted Lasso, the Morning Show, and Severance, it's still progressing and doesn't draw people in by having a deep bench of other movies and TV shows. Now look, Apple is so huge that losing a billion here is not much of a business concern. They're on track to be the world's first trillion-dollar company. And I do think there's is something there to be slow and steady moving forward. There have been a lot of rumors circling of Apple building with originals because they are considering what it would take to acquire one of the huge sites and their libraries...namely Disney, which Apple could purchase with cash on hand. And in the meantime, they can allow their shows and movies to come as they want them, and build based on ideas they think have longevity. We'll keep you updated as all this develops.
