Bidding War Emerges For “Split Fiction” Film

A film adaptation of developer Hazelight Studios’ acclaimed co-op game “Split Fiction” is in the works with a bidding war reportedly breaking out over the title.

Sources at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco have confirmed to Variety that media company Story Kitchen is assembling a package with the film’s cast, writers and director being attached.

That comes as offers for the screen rights already coming in from multiple major studios with more details expected soon.

The game blends fantasy and science fiction and follows a pair of authors trapped in the worlds they wrote by an unscrupulous publisher using a new kind of technology.

Like their past works such as the Game of the Year-winning “It Takes Two,” the game includes split-screen combat, platforming challenges and differing abilities for each character. The film rights to “It Takes Two” were quickly taken by Amazon in April 2022, just a few months after launch.

“Split Fiction” has sold more than two million copies in the first week following its March 6th release, and continues to sell strongly.

Whereas “It Takes Two” was built in a way it can be played between a parent and child, reviews for “Split Fiction” suggest it may be a bit challenging for casual and younger players and is designed more for gamers with a bit more experience (and reflexes).
