Marvel Studios unleashed “Captain America: Brave New World” today (with previews last night) and the film is reportedly on track for an opening day of $39 million.
That figure includes the $12 million the film made in previews on Thursday and suggests the film is on track for a $82-84 million three-day and $90+ million four-day opening over the Presidents Day holiday weekend.
Its first day figure is higher than the $37 million that “Captain America: Winter Soldier” opened to eleven years ago.
Meanwhile “Paddington in Peru” looks to be coming in second with a $4.5 million opening day and that film on track for a $12-13 million three-day and $15+ million four-day haul.
Third will be the third weekend of “Dog Man” with the film tracking for a $10 million three-day and $13 million four-day haul. Fourth will be “Heart Eyes” which is going for around $7 million and $8 million for the three and four-day weekend respectively, a three-day drop of just 16% in its second weekend which is rare for a R-rated horror movie.
Fifth place is Chinese animated giant “Ne Zha 2” which is tracking for a $5.9 million three-day and $6.5 million four-day take. The film has pulled in $1.37 billion in China alone and is already the third best animated film ever worldwide, along with becoming the highest-grossing Chinese film of all time earlier this week.
