Yungblud has shared that Lewis Capaldi is working on some “great” new material.

The singer – whose real name is Dominic Harrison – spoke about his close friend and fellow musician while promoting his own new material, the comeback single ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’. Shared earlier this month, it marked his first track since 2024’s ‘Breakdown’ and a teaser of what will be his first LP since 2022’s self-titled album.

Now, speaking to The Sun as part of the Bizarre column, he shared that Capaldi is also working on new music.  “I have heard his new music, and it sounds great. He is getting his mental health right,” he said.

The latter part of the comment refers to how the singer has been on a break from the spotlight since 2023, when he took to the stage at Glastonbury but saw his performance disrupted by vocal tics, which is a symptom of Tourette’s Syndrome.

“I love him, as me and him have been on this ride together. We experienced it at the same time, and he is perhaps the only friend who knows what I am going through, in the same way I know what he’s going through,” Yungblud added, going on the discuss how the pop star helped him write his recently-shared single.

“When I was making this album, I was really close with Lewis, and Lewis was like, ‘Just fucking sing, man’. And we have a massive British actress in the video. It’s going to be iconic.”

The two have been close friends for years now, and both discussed the influence they had on one another’s careers numerous times in the past.

Back in 2019, for instance, Yungblud discussed the mischief he used to get up to when they were roomates and both trying to get signed, joking that they would be “getting drunk five nights a week” and “caused so much trouble.”

The following year he also said in another interview that the two of them singlehandedly “kept Stella Artois in business for two years”.

They have also both spoken candidly about their struggles with mental health over the years too. Over the past two years, Capaldi has shared updates with fans about why he is taking time out of the spotlight, and thanked fans for their support. He has also received words of encouragement from Robbie Williams.

For Yungblud, the singer has revealed insight into his battle with ADHD and suicidal thoughts over the years, and helped raise awareness for mental health.

In 2020, for example, he admitted that he had been struggling with mental illness since childhood and had his first suicidal thoughts at age 13.

The year before, he opened up to NME about how shows like 13 Reasons Why are important when it comes to shedding light on such issues.

“There’s so much controversy around this show because people think it’s glamorising anxiety. I do not. It’s doing what good art should do: it’s highlighting a subject that people wouldn’t normally talk about,” he said. “People say that it’s triggering and uncomfortable. I suffer from anxiety and depression, and I have a lot of my life. Do you know what’s more uncomfortable than that? Someone not understanding what you’re going through.”

Last year, Yungblud also opened up about his love-hate relationship with social media, saying: “It’s damaged me more than anything in my life,” and shared a single called ‘Breakdown’ in support of mental health charities.

With the latter, Harrison opened up about his own mental health struggles and committed to donate £1 (up to £25,000) to the charities Mind and Sound Mind Live for every use of the song’s CapCut template.

“In my life I’ve always never felt good enough, it’s just the thing that’s eaten me up,” he said in a preview for the single. “For as long as I can remember I have felt constantly afraid of how quickly my head can turn dark.”

“It’s always been so hard to fight the darkness that I inevitably have. A lot of people will say it’s a phase and it will go away. But it doesn’t and the reality of the situation is I have to find strategies to deal with it.”
