The Brazilian musician took to X/Twitter last night (March 20) to share news with fans. “I was really looking forward to being at Coachella this year, but due to unexpected personal reasons, I won’t be able to perform,” she wrote.
“I’m truly grateful to the festival for the invitation, their understanding, and continued support.” In a separate follow-up post, she told fans she hoped to have the opportunity to join them all in the future to “share that special moment together” at the Californian festival.
This year would’ve marked Anitta’s third performance at Coachella, having first performed there in 2022 in a set that saw guest appearances from Saweetie and Snoop Dogg. Two years later, in 2024, she joined Peso Pluma during his set for a performance of ‘Bellakeo’.
Elsewhere last year, Anitta teamed up with a string of collaborators onstage and in the studio. Kylie Minogue brought her out at BST Hyde Park to take on ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, while Måneskin‘s Victoria De Angelis enlisted her on debut solo track ‘GET UP BITCH! (Shake Ya Ass)’.
Last September, The Weeknd also performed a one-off gig in Brazil, and was joined by the popstar for ‘São Paulo‘, later telling Billboard Brasil his US producer Mike Dean had asked Anitta for a vocal recording to complement the special performance, but the feature exceeded expectations and The Weeknd composed a song that became the centrepiece of his new show.
“I wrote some verses as a joke and never imagined they would become serious,” she said at the time. “Suddenly, I received the finished song. I loved it! I felt very honoured and flattered.”
Meanwhile, major acts on the line-up for this year’s edition of Coachella include Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, Travis Scott, Missy Elliott, Charli XCX, Megan Thee Stallion, solo performances from BLACKPINK‘s Lisa and Jennie, Benson Boone, the original Misfits, Zedd, The Prodigy, FKA Twigs, Beabadoobee, Clairo, Enhypen and more.
