Marvel Exec Responds To MCU Reboot Talk

The “Avengers” films have served as major markers for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, each one ushering in a new ‘phase’ that has resulted in some minor cosmetic changes – usually involving character appearances and deaths in some cases.

With the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” films though, multiverse-spanning stories involving major character variations, there is the potential to usher in a reboot – either a minor one or an overall major one.

Certainly, the X-Men will play a major role in the MCU going forward once these movies are done, but will there be other changes? Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum has addressed that possibility during an appearance on the Screen Off Script podcast.

When asked if there are plans for an MCU reboot after Secret Wars, he said that a full reboot would be “a very difficult thing to do to a living, breathing fictional universe, just starting from scratch, because of all of the fan investment and love for the stories that have come so far.”

When asked if he had ever heard of a full reboot being discussed, he demurred to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, saying, “You’re going to have to ask Kevin about the features. I’m on the TV side, but we do navigate the same waters and live in the same universe.”

Winderbaum adds that another issue with rebooting is that: “it always feels like you can’t really fully reboot anything,” saying classic characters and subplots always come back around.
