John Hamburg (“Me Time”) is reportedly in talks to direct the fourth “Meet the Parents” film at Universal Pictures.
Hamburg worked on the screenplay for the 2000 original and the two subsequent sequels. He’s back to write the fourth, but this will mark his first time directing any of the entries.
Jay Roach directed the first two previous films and returns as producer here alongside John Lesher, Jane Rosenthal and co-stars Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller. Paul Weitz directed the third film, “Little Fockers,” but isn’t involved here.
De Niro, Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are all set to return but it’s still unclear if other talent like Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand will be back.
The original film centers on the awkward and tension-filled dynamics between male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) and his intimidating, ex-CIA father-in-law, Jack Byrnes (De Niro).
Critically well-received, that first film made $330 million worldwide and the overall franchise so far has grossed over $1.13 billion.
