Sydney Sweeney Joins Reddit Short Story Film

“Euphoria” and “Anyone But You” star Sydney Sweeney is attached to star in and produce a film adaptation of high school English teacher Joe Cote’s short story with Oscar-winning “Forrest Gump,” “The Insider” and “Dune: Part One” scribe Eric Roth penning the script.

The story is titled “I pretended to be a missing girl so I could rob her family” and centers on a young woman who shows up at a family’s doorsteps ten years after their eighteen-year-old daughter went missing.

Her plan? To convince the family she is their missing child, and stay just for one night – long enough to steal some valuables and get away.

No director is attached, and Roth will commence work on the script. Warner Bros. Pictures has won the rights to the project which Trevor Engelson, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee and Mira Yoon will produce. Cote will executive produce.

Sweeney has most recently been working on Apple TV series “Echo Valley,” Paul Feig’s “The Housemaid” and the untitled Christy Martin biopic.

She’s currently working on the third season of HBO’s “Euphoria” and has several projects on the way including a new adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death” and the Colman Domingo-directed drama “Scandalous!” in which she plays actress Kim Novak.

Roth has two projects in the works – an adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s “London” starring Oscar Isaac and directed by Ben Stiller, and the long-gestating adaptation of Erik Larson’s novel “The Devil in the White City”.
