Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter is set to do the score of an upcoming film of “Parasite” and “Mickey 17” director Bong Joon-ho.
Bong conducted a post-screening Q&A with Carpenter following a 4K restoration screening of Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi classic “The Thing” and during this, the Korean auteur began to detail the plan for his “next, next movie”.
Bong’s immediate next film is the already-shot undersea animated film “The Valley”, so he’s likely referring to the currently untitled horror action movie announced not that long ago and set in an underground Seoul subway station.
Before he could ask Carpenter the question, Carpenter replied, “I wanna do your score.” The pair hand-shook on the deal, and Bong then reportedly told the audience this was “officially” and “seriously” happening.
Though Carpenter has retired from directing, he still does scores including the 2018 “Halloween” revival trilogy and 2022’s remake of “Firestarter’. He also recently composed the score for A24’s “Death of a Unicorn” but was replaced by Dan Romer and Giosuè Greco.
The new film will mark Bong’s first return to horror following 2006’s creature feature “The Host”.
