‘The View’ Struggles to Keep Great Dane Guest Onstage With Naomi Watts and Bill Murray

Naomi Watts and Bill Murray stopped by “The View” on Tuesday morning, and they brought their Great Dane co-star Bing with them. The thing is, Bing didn’t exactly love hanging out on stage.

The trio stars in the new film “The Friend,” and as they took the stage, host Joy Behar joked that it seemed Watts and Murray’s “horse” was a little afraid and jumpy. But Watts was quick to note that the applause in the room is a lot of noise for a pup to handle.

“That was a lot of noise, even I got up to leave,” Whoopi agreed. “I mean I felt the same way he did.”

Bing quickly settled into a large dog bed set on a small individual stage though, and Murray and Watts were able to go into detail on the film. But, as Murray noted that Bing “turns out to be nothing short of miraculous,” the audience applauded the dog.

Sure enough, the Great Dane leapt up and ran offstage to his owner, prompting Watts to simply joke, “No clapping I guess.” As Bing was escorted back to the stage, Murray joked that the dog’s owner really just “said she had to get on tv.”

Fortunately, Bing settled back down, but not for long. Because, eventually applause came again, as host Sara Haines directed a question directly at the dog. Explaining that they were both from the same town in Iowa, Bing hopped up and off the stage again.

“Can I just, I think, when the claps happen, he thinks he’s done a trick and now he gets a treat,” Watts explained with a laugh. “Because that’s what we would do, is we would clap.”

“It’s kind of fun to see the dog jump, go ahead and clap,” Murray added.

Indeed, Bing was given a few treats, brought back to his spot, and remained there for the rest of the segment and one more, after the commercial break. During that second segment, Bing opted to just lay down and snuggle up, nearly dosing off.

It was a ruff morning.
