“The Bachelor” Grant Ellis’ road to an engagement was anything but certain, with the choice between Juliana Pasquarosa and Litia Garr sending the lead of the ABC reality dating show into a frenzy.
Despite mulling over the decision to propose to Pasquarosa — who subsequently accepted his proposal — for much of Monday’s three-hour finale, Ellis revealed he began to “gravitate more towards” his now-fiancée during their hometown date to visit Pasquarosa’s family in Massachusetts.
“Our relationship had continued to grow … it was a slow burn,” Ellis told TheWrap. “We really opened up more towards the end, and it was around when I met her family, and I saw the dynamic of what I wanted, and what I gravitate more towards. I think around that time, I started to sense it, but I still had to figure it out.”
Pasquarosa added how much she valued seeing Ellis fit into her family, saying “I wanted to just see the dynamic, and I wanted to make sure he was comfortable.”
“I could kind of gauge his body language, and the conversation after, and how I could tell he was excited for that,” Pasquarosa said. “For a really long time, I wanted to be able to bring somebody into my life to also enjoy my family and see the worth for what I see it as, and Grant does that.”
Below, Ellis and Pasquarosa break down the finale and their first moments as an openly engaged couple.
TheWrap: Grant, that was a pretty brutal clawback from Litia in the finale. What was it like hearing her say that you were different than she thought?
Ellis: It’s not the first time that I’ve heard that through the season — somebody else said that to me. I know who I am, and I know my heart. I understand being broken up with is not is not easy, especially when you’re in this dating pool. I don’t have any bad words to say.
Juliana, have you spoken with Litia since filming?
Pasquarosa: No. Litia and I were both surrounded by a lot of love and support after the filming wrapped, and after last night. Like I’ve said, there’s always a chair at my table for Litia if she wants to come sit. I hope that maybe one day she will.
Juliana, Litia left by saying she would have a lot of questions if she were you – what was it like watching that back? Did it phase you?
Pasquarosa: It didn’t phase me. I was provided all of the answers to everything, or I was given enough information that I didn’t even have to ask any questions. So nothing shocked me at all.
We found out last night that Zoe will be headed to Bachelor in Paradise, who else from the season would you like to see there?
Pasquarosa: Alli Jo, Parisa — those are my girls. Vicky, if she wants, Kelsey, J’Nae, all of them.
What’s the craziest fan theory about the ending of the season that you saw?
Pasquarosa: That we were broken up after “Women Tell All” — that was hilarious. I think we kind of rode that wave too and added a little bit to it just for fun. I put up a couple TikToks, and people just really ran with it. I will say, I don’t know that it was necessarily even my intent. Initially, I put up a video on TikTok just like a message to the girls of my season, just kind of being silly and enjoying the fact that I was not on the screen on a Monday night — it was after the “Women Tell All,” and everybody was like, “oh, if she’s saying she’s finally enjoying a Monday, that must mean all the other Mondays are so hard for her.” And I was like, “Oh, I didn’t really mean it like that.”
Ellis: There’s so many … that I ended up single, probably, but I don’t really have much to say about that.
What are you most looking forward to about being able to be in public together?
Ellis: Getting some dinner, and just hanging out and working on us, that’s the main thing. We got Aruba and … me coming to Boston, us grabbing dinner at Olivia’s and hanging out with the fam and just decompressing away from everything.
What is the biggest thing you have learned about each other since being engaged?
Ellis: I will continue to stand on this. I think that Juliana is somebody who’s really strong in her beliefs, and she knows who she is, and when she feels a way, she’s going to say that, she’s going to stand on that. So, I really respect that and I’ll continue to tell her that is one of her biggest strengths.
Pasquarosa: That he’s a good cook. He loves to cook — I love to eat. It’s a match made in heaven.
What was it like when your families met for the first time?
Pasquarosa: They partied with us last night, it was a big celebration — world’s colliding — and I can’t wait to continue to do that.
