Announced just over a year ago, developer MystiveDev’s Bodycam Action-Horror FPS Chasmal Fear will arrive next month on Steam on April 17. The Mirror Forge devs and publisher Wandering Wizard have also released a new trailer marking the announcement, which also provides a sense of what players will expect in the briny deep.

In Chasmal Fear, players find themselves trapped in the depths of Magnus Underwater City, a once-thriving sci-fi facility that’s now eerily abandoned, its halls crawling with unspeakable horrors. With limited ammo and supplies, every encounter is a high-stakes decision: stand your ground and fight, or slip through the shadows and avoid what lurks in the dark. Survival isn’t the only goal, secrets lie hidden in the abyss, and only by piecing together clues, solving puzzles, and uncovering lost areas can players unravel the mystery of what really happened here.

Built in Unreal Engine 5, players can expect a terrifyingly immersive experience, with eerie lighting, hyper-detailed environments, and a bodycam perspective that makes every moment feel unnervingly real. Complicating matters for you is the game’s Monster Mutation System, where monsters will randomly start to mutate when killed into a stronger form. Don’t be surprised when you encounter more dangerous foes after you’ve cleaned out an area.

Your choices throughout your journey will affect your gameplay experience. Choosing to open one way will close other paths to your next goal. Depending on your choice, you can dive guns blazing or sneak stealthily above a swarm of enemies; hide in the shadows or use your environment to squash the monstrosities. Coupling that are the randomised events that occurr throughout the game, ensuring replayability.
