In today’s Barside Buzz we’re sharing some rumored plot details of Shang-Chi 2 involving Jimmy Woo and Atlas. It is expected that Shang-Chi star Simu Liu will feature in at least one of the upcoming Avengers movies. However, as yet there has been no sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. For now, I imagine it’s a project that will come back post-Secret Wars. After all, director Destin Daniel Cretton is helming Spider-Man 4 set between the Doomsday/Secret Wars combo. Plus, Legend of the Ten Rings was a damn good movie.
Now Alex Perez from TCC is claiming he’s heard some rumored plot details that have been explored for this sequel. Alex does a good job of explaining the connections between Atlas and Jimmy Woo in the comics, but I’ll keep it simple.
Shang-Chi and Atlas
Atlas are a clandestine organisation from the time of Genghis Khan, bent on world domination. In the comics Jimmy Woo, an heir to this empire, was sent away to America by his parents to escape this fate. In the comics, eventually Jimmy does get control and turns Atlas towards altruistic goals, forming the Agents of Atlas.
Alex says this backbone would’ve/may form the plot of Shang-Chi 2. The power vacuum left by the death of Wenwu and his Ten Rings would have seen Atlas rise up. This would bring Shang-Chi and his sister into the story, whilst Jimmy would connect us to the Atlas side of the coin.
‘In addition, sources have told us that Agent Jimmy Woo would be involved as he would be after the “mysterious Golden Claw” and, together with Shang-Chi, would uncover the conspiracy behind the Atlas Foundation since the Golden Claw, Golden Warriors, and the Atlas Foundation would all ultimately connect.’

Atlas has dragons as wise counsellors and fantastical elements like that to play with. This tonally would fit well with the world established in Legend of the Ten Rings. It would also allow Marvel to capitalize on a smaller, but well liked character in Jimmy Woo. You could totally see an Agents of Atlas TV series being the right fit for the new TV model at Disney+. Alex goes on to say that his sources say that was at least the plan for how this would develop. Finally, Alex claims that Atlas would also have had a connection to Ms. Marvel‘s Clandestines. This would encircle and connect all the Eastern mythological properties together nicely I feel.
Look, this may have been the case, at one point. However, is it still now, after Marvel’s recent troubles and recalibrations? Who knows? I will however say, this all fits together rather nicely. It would allow Marvel to have a little corner of projects all linking with one another across movies and TV, that center around Eastern mythology.
Marvel don’t need one big narrative, they can have two or three running, as long as those are self contained, consistent and followed up. Where Marvel has gone wrong is starting a million threads without following them up or connecting them together well. This move would allow a connection between Shang-Chi, a new TV series, Ms. Marvel, and Captain Marvel, plus perhaps others.
What do you think of these rumored plot details of Shang-Chi 2 involving Jimmy Woo and Atlas? Thoughts below as always.
