Following their performances at Big Ears 2025, Michael Rother (Neu!, Harmonia) and Japanese singer-songwriter Eiko Ishibashi headed to NYC to play Knockdown Center on Sunday as part of the venue’s Outline series, alongside Thurston Moore and HTRK.

Rother was performing songs from Neu! and Harmonia, and was backed by 74-75 era Neu! drummer Hans Lampe as well as guitarist Franz Bargmann and Vittoria Maccabruni on electronics and vocals. Their set included such krautrock classics as Neu!’s “ISI” and “Hallogallo,” Harmonia’s “Dino” and “Deluxe (Immer Wieder),” and more. For “E-Musik,” Rother brought out Thurston Moore, who added a little more guitar squall to the mix

Earlier in the night, Thurston was playing as part of a trio with fellow experimentalists, drummer Tom Surgal and percussionist William Winant. Things were decidedly more gentle for both Eiko and HTRK’s sets.

The next Outline series show is April 12, with post-rock greats Explosions in the Sky, Iceland group múm, and Mexico City-based art-pop musician Mabe Fratti, (all of whom were also just at Big Ears), plus shoegazers They are Gutting a Body of Water, Dutch electronic artist upsammy, and ethereal Mexican group Diles Que No Me Maten. Tickets are on sale.
