Filmmaker Kate Herron scored a lot of acclaim for her work on the first season of “Loki” at Marvel Studios.
The same thing has happened again for her work on this past Sunday’s episode of HBO’s “The Last of Us” as she juggled several major set pieces, including a subway attack that took a week to film to a brutal naked torture scene, along with handling multiple storylines, introducing a key character and whole new home base location for the show, and blossoming a romantic relationship.
Talking up her recent stint on the acclaimed HBO drama, she reveals that her work on that game-to-TV series adaptation has had an impact on how she’s approached making her upcoming film adaptation of “The Sims” at Amazon MGM Studios.
Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment is producing the project and Herron confirms the film is still very much in the writing phase right now, telling Variety: “I’m just writing away, but we’re all feeling very good about it.”
Asked if she’s bringing anything from her experience on “The Last of Us” over to “The Sims,” she says she’s adopted one of the showrunner’s unique writing practices on her film:
“Craig writes the thoughts of the characters in the script. I love it, and I have 100% stolen that, and I’m now doing it in all the scripts I write. It’s such a good idea.”
Herron is slated to direct the film, which Briony Redman is also co-writing. Roy Lee, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara are also producing while “The Sims” publisher Electronic Arts is said to be involved in the movie’s creative process.
