“Texas Chainsaw” Rights Being Sold Around

Just one day after the rights to the Jason Bourne franchise were being shopped around, another long-running franchise is hitting the market – “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”.

Legendary Pictures has held the rights to the property since 2017, but recently the IP returned to the rights holders Exurbia Films with boutique agency Verve now selling them around reports THR.

Whereas ‘Bourne’ has already sparked a bidding war, nothing like that exists as yet but the trade says interest is high and several potential packages are out there.

The most signicant of those reportedly could see the teaming of Austin-born hunk Glen Powell (“Twisters,” “Anyone But You”) with “Strange Darling” filmmaker J.T. Molner and veteran producer Roy Lee.

Another reportedly has “IT” franchise director Andy Muschietti circling it. The original 1974 film remains an iconic work of horror, though the franchise has been diluted somewhat with unnecessary sequels and prequels and films set in different continuities.

The only two of note was Platinum Dunes’ 2003 remake starring Jessica Biel, and the 1995 sequel which starred a then very young Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger.
