Back in September came the news that James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios were working on a team-up movie involving Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke.
“Captain America: Brave New World” writer Matthew Orton was penning the project which was currently in development, but no director was yet attached, and it was unclear if this was a DCU film or an Elseworlds tale.
Now, scooper MyTimeToShineH reports that it appears progress has been made on the project: “[DC Studios] already have someone in mind to play Deathstroke in the DCU, so casting should be not too far [away].”
Deathstroke, aka. Slade Wilson, is a mercenary widely considered the greatest and deadliest assassin in the DC Universe, an adversary of various DC heroes and known for his bicolored black-and-orange mask.
Joe Manganiello played him in a cameo in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” Esai Morales played him on the second season of “Titans,” but the most well-regarded screen adaptation to date was Manu Bennett’s take on the character in “Arrow”. That version reimagined him as a former Australian security services agent and turned him into a dangerous psychological threat who systematically dismantled the Green Arrow’s life.
Previously attempts were made for a Deathstroke spin-off, one to be directed by Ben Affleck and another by “The Raid” director Gareth Evans.
The talk comes as the scooper also indicated over the weekend that, as expected, Robert Pattinson is “100% not the DCU Batman. A new actor will take on that role” according to their sources.
