Justin Lin Set To Direct “BRZRKR” Film

Former “Fast & Furious” franchise steerer and “Star Trek Beyond” director Justin Lin is set to direct the film adaptation of the Keanu Reeves-created comic “BRZRKR” for Netflix.

The twelve-issue 2021 comic series originated from an idea Reeves had been developing for a number of years. He will star in the film as a half-mortal/half-god as the story charts his 80,000-year brutal fight through the ages – cursed and compelled to violence and wandering the earth for millennia.

More recently, he’s found refuge working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, he is granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.

Reeves and Eisner-nominated comics author Matt Kindt wrote the comic alongside artist Ron Garney. “The Batman Part II” co-writer Mattson Tomlin penned the script for the film adaptation to be produced by Lin, Reeves, Stephen Christy, Stephen Hamel and Ross Richie.

The first issue remains one of the best-selling comics of the last decade, selling over 600,000 copies. The overall title has sold over 3.5 million worldwide. An anime spinoff is also in development which will be written by Tomlin.

Lin most recently directed “Last Days,” the Sundance-premiering true story tale about John Allen Chau – the American missionary who illegally landed on and died on North Sentinel Island in the Indian Ocean, home of the Sentinelese tribe who are extreme isolationists and aggressively hostile to outsiders. Reeves reportedly helped considerably in getting the film made.
