Nathan Fillion Will Be In HBO’s “Lanterns”

HBO’s upcoming DC Universe-set mystery thriller series “Lanterns” just got a new addition – Nathan Fillion.

“The Rookie” and “Firefly” star will play the role of Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the series, reprising a part he first played in James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” movie opening in July.

The nature of Fillion’s appearance is unclear, though it is likely to be short. The actor has been glimpsed in the film’s trailers sporting a hideous blond bowl cut and Fillion has spoken about how he’s playing the character as a complete jerk who is “not nice”.

“Lanterns” follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen also star in the series which has been in production since February.

Chris Mundy serves as showrunner and wrote the pilot with Damon Lindelof and Tom King. All three executive produce alongside Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt and James Hawes, who is directing the first two episodes.
