Jason Momoa has finally confirmed his return to the “Dune” universe.
Out promoting “A Minecraft Movie,” the actor appeared on the “Today” show and confirmed he’ll be reprising his role of Duncan Idaho (sort of) for Denis Villeneuve’s third and seemingly final movie (for him) in the franchise – “Dune Messiah”.
“I’m making a comeback. You heard it first, right here with you, baby” Momoa told the interviewer. The actor’s character was the House Artreides Swordmaster and a mentor to Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Artreides.
He appears throughout the first film until he is killed, giving time for Paul and his mother, Jessica, to escape from the Emperor’s lethal Sardaukar soldiers.
The character returns in ‘Messiah’ as a ‘ghola’ named Hayt, essentially a clone and a sleeper agent designed to poison Paul’s mind and potentially kill him. The character plays a key part throughout the rest of the “Dune” novel saga, and Momoa was asked if the film will follow the books in regards to his character:
“Well, I’m not sure if I’m going to get in trouble or not, but it’s the same thing like ‘Game of Thrones’, you know what I mean? If you didn’t read the books, it’s not my fault, right? Yeah, there’s going to be … I’m going to be coming back.”
‘Messiah’ is expected to go into production in the back half of this year ahead of a release on December 18th 2026.
