John Hamburg, the writer of the “Meet the Parents” film series, is now set to direct its upcoming fourth installment for Universal in addition to writing the script.

Series stars Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner will all return with De Niro, Stiller and Hamburg among the producers. De Niro will produce with Jane Rosenthal through Tribeca Productions while Stiller will produce with John Lesher through Red Hour Films. Hamburg will produce through Particular Pictures with Jay Roach producing through Delirious Media.

EVP Production Development Matt Reilly and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal.

Plot details are being kept secret for “Meet the Parents 4,” which will be the first film in the series since “Little Fockers” in 2010. It has been a quarter-century since “Meet the Parents” hit theaters in 2000, grossing $330 million at the global box office.

Hamburg has been a longtime screenwriting collaborator with Stiller, having also written the comedy star’s pair of “Zoolander” films and the 2004 romcom “Along Came Polly.” He most recently directed the 2022 comedy “Me Time” starring Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg as well as four episodes, including the pilot, of the CBS sitcom “The Unicorn,” which he was also executive producer on.

Hamburg is represented by WME and Sloss Eckhouse Dasti Haynes LawCo. The signing was first reported by Deadline.
