Seth MacFarlane’s animated comedy “American Dad!” is coming home, the series is reportedly set to return to FOX for its upcoming 20th season reports Deadline.
“American Dad!” has been airing on TBS since 2014 but earlier today it was indicated that TBS would no longer be running the show which was its last remaining scripted original.
Its run there comes to an end with the Season 19 finale on March 24th. The network and Adult Swim will continue to carry the series’ past episodes through 2030 as the exclusive linear home of the American Dad! library.
The new pickup deal at FOX, which has been in the works for months, allows the 20th Television Animation-made series to remain in production and is expected to be for multiple seasons. It will join FOX’s other long-running and 20th TV Animation-produced successful animated series including “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers”.
Part of the reason it’s happening is the $1.5 billion deal extension Fox Entertainment and Hulu closed in November – that will keep the broadcast network’s shows on the Disney-owned streaming platform in-season.
MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman created the series which centers on super patriotic CIA agent Stan Smith (MacFarlane) and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, Virginia.
