Keanu Talks Moving Forward On “Constantine 2”

For much of the past two decades since the original came out, filmmaker Francis Lawrence’s 2005 DC Comics adaptation “Constantine” has been the subject of sequel talk.

Then, in late 2022, came confirmation Lawrence, star Keanu Reeves and writer Akiva Goldsman would be re-teaming for a sequel which was in development at Warner Bros. Pictures.

The strikes delayed things, but Lawrence in recent weeks that he’s been doing interviews for the original film’s 4K UHD release and indicated that the follow-up is “closer than ever” to happening.

Now Reeves himself confirms that things are finally moving on the film, telling Inverse this week:

“We’ve been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay’. So, we’re going to try and write a script.”

Reeves confirms they’re sticking to the dark world of the original and that “John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more”.

In the original film, which grossed nearly $300 million, John Constantine attempts to help a woman (Rachel Weisz) sees him get caught up in the battle between heaven and hell.

The archangel Gabriel (Tilda Swinton), and even Lucifer (Peter Stormare) all get involved. Shia LaBeouf, Djimon Hounsou and Gavin Rossdale also starred.

British actor Matt Ryan has played the character across mutiple TV series over the years including “Constantine,” “Arrow” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”.
