The trailer for the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale has arrived online – watch it below.
The teaser hints at the climactic revolution to come in Gilead in this final season, and that Elisabeth Moss’ June Osborne will don the red cloak once again to lead it. During the trailer, June is heard saying “Enough is enough”, and that “For years we’ve been afraid of them. Now it’s time for them to be afraid of us. This is the beginning of the end.”
It also reveals that Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) is back in Gilead, and appears to be walking down the aisle, about to be married.
Moss and Strahovski return alongside O-T Fagbenle as June’s husband Luke, Max Minghella as her lover Nick, Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia and Madeline Brewer as former handmaid Janine. New cast members include Josh Charles (The Good Wife) and D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place).
The synopsis reads: “June’s unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead.
“Luke and Moira join the resistance. Serena tries to reform Gilead while Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia reckon with what they wrought, and Nick faces challenging tests of character.
“This final chapter of June’s journey highlights the importance of hope, courage, solidarity and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.”
The dystopian drama is based on Margaret Atwood’s book of the same name. Season five depicted the aftermath of June leading a group of women in killing her captor, Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). The season finale saw June fleeing Canada with daughter Nichole as Nick and Luke exchanged their freedom to help her get away, which led to a reunion between adversaries June and Serena in a train carriage.
The sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale will be released on Hulu in the US on April 8. There is no confirmed UK air date as of yet, though the show usually airs on Channel 4 soon after it is available in the US.
