Derrickson, Cargill Re-Team On “Road of Bones”

The “Sinister” and “The Black Phone” pair of Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are set to re-team for a film adaptation of Christopher Golden’s 2022 horror novel “Road of Bones” at Sony’s Screen Gems and their own Crooked Highway banner.

The supernatural thriller is set along the Kolyma Highway in Siberia. The real highway which was built during the Stalinist Soviet Union with the labor of prisoners from the gulags.

Hundreds of thousands of inmates reportedly died during the construction of the 2000 km long road which ended up being built partly atop of the bodies due to the permafrost making burial too difficult.

Blending folk and survival horror, the tale follows an American documentarian exploring the road’s history. He ends up fighting for his life in one of Earth’s coldest and most remote locations.

The pair will produce and co-write the screenplay with Derrickson set to direct the project which falls under their first-look deal with Sony. Golden, Vince Cheng and Pete Donaldson will executive produce.

Golden also penned the 2017 novel “Ararat” and co-created the comic “Baltimore” with “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola. Derrickson and Cargill most recently produced Apple TV+ hit film “The Gorge” which Derrickson directed. The pair have a sequel to “The Black Phone” hitting in October.
