Sony held its big CinemaCon presentation tonight in Las Vegas, with much of the talk online swirling around the fourth “Spider-Man” title, “Beyond the Spider-Verse” release date and the teased “28 Years Later” trailer.
However, some other teases about their upcoming films were also revealed, here’s a breakdown of what else was shown or discussed:
The Beatles
Sam Mendes’ four biopics about “The Beatles” has officially announced its cast – Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
In addition, Sony is reportedly set to release all four films in cinemas in April 2028. The release strategy is being dubbed the “first binge-able theatrical experience”.
Resident Evil
Filmmaker Zach Cregger was on hand to say his new “Resident Evil” film will follow the mould that many of the games follow, but the films have shied away from in favor of ensembles – namely that there is only one main protagonist alone, and the film will follow them on a journey that slowly becomes more and more hellish.
That fits in with a rumored synopsis from the other week in which a courier, tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital, finds himself caught in the middle of an outbreak and must fight to survive. That film opens September 2026.
Caught Stealing
Dubbed “Snatch meets Baby Driver” by scooper Jeff Sneider, the new action comedy crime caper from Darren Aronofsky sees “Dune” and “Elvis” actor Austin Butler in his underwear a lot as he looks after the New York apartment of a mohawked character (Matt Smith).
During this housesit, a number of crime families come looking for the apartment’s owner including Bad Bunny as a mob leader. The film is dubbed a “love letter” to the city and reaction seems to be that the movie looks like a lot of fun with car chases, fights and moments of comedy.
Grandgear
“Godzilla Minus One” Takashi Yamazaki has set his first English language film at Sony. Titled “Grandgear,” the project will be produced by J.J. Abrams but plot specifics and casting are under wraps.
Jumanji 3
Jake Kasdan is confirmed to be returning as director for the third of the recent “Jumanji” movies following ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘The Next Level’. In addition, Sony has confirmed a December 11th 2026 release date for the film.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
A trailer sees Madelyn Cline enjoying a bath, with a blood red bath bomb, while unknowningly her boyfriend downstairs is killed by a hook-handed killer. Freddie Prinze, Jr. is seen in a town hall meeting indicating their town has seen violence before, and one scene sees Jennifer Love Hewitt asking a character what they did last summer.
Release Dates
Sony confirmed last week’s report that “The Legend of Zelda” film will open March 26th 2027, while they also confirm a sixth “Insidious” film arrives August 21st 2026.
