Favreau To Produce “Oswald” Disney Series

“The Mandalorian” creator/showrunner and “The Jungle Book” director Jon Favreau has set another project up at Disney – this time an animation/live-action hybrid series based on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The self-absorbed bunny character, who bears close resemblance to Mickey Mouse, was created by Walt Disney in 1927 and featured in 27 animated shorts.

However, Universal took control of the character in 1928 which led to Disney creating a new character as a replacement: Mickey Mouse.

Bringing Oswald back to his original home almost a century later has been a priority for Disney CEO Bob Iger. Disney acquired the trademark to him in 2006.

Favreau has executive produced the various “Star Wars” Disney+ spinoffs like “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Ahsoka” and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”.

Favreau directs and produces the upcoming feature “The Mandalorian and Grogu” which is set for release on May 2026.
