Though rumored for years, it really wasn’t until late last year that it was made official – Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” “Fast X”) would play alien bounty hunter and biker character Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
As today marks the anniversary of the character’s publication, Gunn posted an amusing image on Threads showing a text he received from Momoa back when Gunn first got the DC Studios gig in late 2022.
The text was simple – “F—ing Lobo” to which Gunn responded: “Dude, I’ve said you should be Lobo for years. No lie.” Speaking about the exchange, Gunn says:
“On the anniversary of Lobo, I can’t help but think of a text I received from Jason Momoa on the morning it was announced Peter & I were the heads of DC Studios — the day Jason & I first discussed him joining the DCU as Lobo. I’ve loved watching Jason bring him to life & can’t wait to share that with all of you.”
Momoa, who has been a lifelong fan of the Lobo character, will make his debut in the role in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” which is currently in production. It marks the second film of the new DCU following Gunn’s own upcoming “Superman” film starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.
Gunn also has shared new behind-the-scenes looks at Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Gaby de Faria as The Engineer in the “Superman” movie. The former includes a message celebrating his birthday, the latter a message for the anniversary of the character’s creation.
