Charli XCX has reportedly lined up another film project, this time with esteemed Japanese horror director Takashi Miike – find out more below.

According to a Variety report, the ‘360’ singer will reportedly be starring in Miike’s next film, and will also be producing it. Details are wrapped on the project for the time being, but it is being written by Ross Evans, who penned the script for Robert Pattinson‘s How To Save A Marriage.

Though Takashi Miike is best known for his work in the violence and gore genres – most notably 1999’s Audition and 2001’s Ichi The Killer – he has also worked on action and drama films with over 100 directing credits to his name. Other works he is known for include the Crows Zero franchise, Family, Dead or Alive, Rainy Dog and more.

The currently untitled project marks just one of many acting projects that Charli XCX has signed on for in recent months. Last month, Prime Video shared a clip of the upcoming comedy series Overcompensating, in which Charli will star – the first clip sees her berate a shocked-looking assistant, shouting: “You think I wanna play fucking ‘Boom Clap’ in a fucking college – are you joking?” The artist guest stars as a comedic version of herself, as well as serving as the show’s executive music producer.

Last December, it was announced that Charli XCX had been cast in The Gallerist alongside Jenna OrtegaNatalie Portman, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Daniel Brühl and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Her other projects include Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, Sacrifice with Anya-Taylor Joy and Chris Evans and graphic novel adaptation 100 Nights Of Hero, which is led by Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Maika Monroe (Longlegs).

In autumn 2024, it was revealed that Charli had filmed a movie called Erupcja in Warsaw, Poland at the height of ‘Brat’ summer. She’s also leading an A24 mockumentary film, The Moment, which is based on her own original idea – filming has begun in London.

After dominating the cultural conversation for almost a year, during her Coachella performance earlier this month, Charli XCX seemed to finally declare the ‘Brat’ era over, with the giant screen behind her on stage reading: “maybe it’s time for a different kind of summer?,” before listing the artists and directors primed to take over this year.

Most recently, Charli has revealed that she’s unsure if she’ll really put to an end to her acclaimed ‘Brat’ era: “I don’t know. Um, but it got me thinking about it is really hard to let go of ‘Brat,’ and let go of this thing that is so inherently me, and become my entire life… I just kind of want it to keep going.”

‘Brat’ was named as the Album of the Year by NME, and awarded a four-star review that read: “It all paints a picture of who XCX is in 2024. Growing pains, grief and aching doubts come alongside self-confidence, celebration and the knowledge of the place XCX holds in the musical landscape – indeed, she kicks off ‘360’ with the knowing: “I went my own way and I made it / I’m your favourite reference baby”.

The subsequent remix album, ‘Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat‘, received five stars from NME, with Aneesa Ahmed writing: “She has perfected the art of remixing, keeping the songs moving by giving them a brand new lease of life rather than letting them exist statically in their original form.”
