All the “Severance” thirst over Adam Scott is surprising to one person: Adam Scott. Ahead of the finale of the Apple TV+ drama, the actor behind Mark S. stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to talk about the final episode, judge fan art and debunk wild fan theories.
Specifically, Kimmel asked Scott about the fan response to Season 2, Episode 7 “Chikhai Bardo,” which shows Mark S. (Scott) before he was severed. The episode, written by Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman and directed by Jessica Lee Gagné, has inspired several fan edits of Scott and posts about how attractive he is.
“Literally, all I did was get a haircut. It goes to show just how terrible my haircut is as Mark S., I guess,” Scott told Kimmel on Thursday night.
Scott then revealed that he does not use a wig in “Severance” and that Mark S.’s stuffy, professional hair style is “all Ben Stiller.” “He loves that hairdo. He kind of came up with it,” Scott said. “From the very beginning of the show, he had a very specific idea of what my hair should look like, and that’s what it is.”
“Wow, his attention to detail might be a mental illness,” Kimmel joked.
“Well, it certainly is exacting,” Scott replied.
Kimmel has certainly been watching the Apple TV+ original. Whereas most late night interviews tend to cover broad topics, the ABC star got granular, calling out a moment in Episode 9 where Britt Lower’s Helena meticulously eats an egg.
“It just goes to show we spared no expense,” Scott joked.
The late night host then debunked one of the wildest “Severance” fan theories. Certain viewers have speculated that this universe is connected to other roles Scott has played, specifically Ben Wyatt in “Parks & Recreation” and his guest starring role in MTV’s “Dead at 21.” In a Season 6 episode of “Parks & Recreation,” Scott’s Ben advocated for a complete divide of his personal and professional lives, which is basically the plot of “Severance.” As for “Dead at 21,” Scott’s character had a microchip in that 1994 drama, which marked the star’s first-ever acting job.
“It is pretty close. The thing my character was pitching to Leslie [Amy Poehler] does sound sort of like ‘Severance,'” Scott said.
“But that is a coincidence?” Kimmel asked.
“Yes,” Scott responded.
