Seth Rogen Says the Best Brand Movie Pitch He's Every Heard Was Ridley Scott's MONOPOLY Movie
Actor Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Knocked Up) is currently starring in the Apple TV+ series The Studio, where he plays Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of Continental Studios. Desperate for celebrity approval, he and his executive team at the movie studio must juggle corporate demands with creative ambitions as they try to keep movies alive and relevant. Being the head of a studio means you hear pitches for all different types of movies all the time, and Rogen recently opened up about the best brand movie pitch he’s ever heard. Speaking at a Variety Q&A, Rogen recalled getting an unusual pitch from none other that Ridley Scott: "He was going to direct the Monopoly movie, and me and Evan [Goldberg] went into his office and he said, 'Imagine a helicopter shot of Central Park,'" Rogen began. "'You're looking down on it from above. You pull up, you see all the buildings surrounding Central Park. What does it look like?' And then he said, 'A Monopoly board!' And were like, 'F**k, that's good.'"Other pitches were less than stellar. Rogen explained, "I think there was a Hungry Hungry Hippos movie in development for a while. I think we've been pitched every brand. I feel like there was a Doritos movie at some point. 'Kool-Aid' is not far off from what is actually floating around the halls of this place by any stretch of the imagination."It’s interesting to think of the movies based on games or toys, and the writers and directors who are able to just see a vision for an entire story. Barbie ended up being such a powerful movie, and it sounds like Scott’s New York City grid Monopoly movie would have been intriguing as well. via: GamesRadar
