ScarJo On Avengers Return: “Her Story Is Complete”

It seems she answers his question every other month, and once again Scarlett Johansson has reiterated that her Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff character won’t return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Johansson played the role for around a decade, spanning from “Iron Man 2” through to “Black Widow,” with her character sacrificing herself to save the universe in “Avengers: Endgame”.

With the new “Avengers” films set to deal with the multiverse and potential variants of existing characters, there’s been fan speculation Johansson might return as an alternate universe Black Widow or another Marvel character altogether.

Speaking with Vanity Fair this week, Johansson says Natasha is very much dead in the MCU and she won’t get to play with her old friends who are currently filming “Avengers: Doomsday” in the UK:

“It would be very hard for me to understand in what capacity [returning] would make sense for me, for the character that I play. I miss my buddies and really would love to be with them forever, but what works about the character is that her story is complete. I don’t want to mess with that. For fans, too – it’s important for them.”

Florence Pugh as Natasha’s sister Yelena Belova has essentially taken over in the same capacity in the MCU these days, with Pugh confirmed to appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” in the initial cast announcement. ‘Doomsday’ will open next May.
