Back in the mid-2010s, following his success with penning the scripts for acclaimed movies “Sicario” and “Hell or High Water,” Taylor Sheridan wrote the script for an action thriller named “F.A.S.T.”.
The story concerns a former special forces commando, down on his luck after he returns home, who is tapped by the DEA to lead a black op strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers in his town.
Warners picked it up in 2018, with Sheridan initially indicating he wanted to direct, and Chris Pratt was circling to star. Gavin O’Connor was also linked as director at one point.
However, Warner’s then owners, AT&T, didn’t see the upside of a mid-budget film ($60-70 million) as it was too expensive for a streaming launch and had little upside theatrically. As the pandemic hit, the project was put into turnaround.
Now, years later and following Sheridan’s success with the “Yellowstone” franchise, Warner Bros. Discovery have reacquired the property in a deal which will see the film being not only made but also fast tracked for an April 23rd 2027 release.
Sheridan has a strict exclusive deal with Paramount, but Warners chief David Zaslav made it a priority to come to an arrangement with Paramount which will allow Sheridan to write and produce.
“1923” actor Brendon Sklenar and director/cinematographer Ben Richardson are both attached to the project. Jenny Wood, David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford will also produce through their Heyday Films and Bosque Ranch labels.
