Emirates has a subscription-based program called Skywards+ which allows members who sign up for this to obtain a wide variety of benefits that are usually reserved for status members such as access to the Emirates Lounge.
In addition to benefits such as lounge access, there are also discounts on awards booked through Emirates Skywards as well as additional baggage allowance.
You can access Emirates here and see what else they have on offer.
In some circumstances, it can actually make sense to buy one of these packages, which are all valid for one year each, and there are three different types of
Pricing in USD is as follows:
- Classic US$400
- Advanced US$700
- Premium US$1000
The pricing is a bit steep, so you really have to consider the benefits to see if it makes sense for your own travel patterns. Some benefits, like the 10k miles for Emirates Holidays, are rather useless, considering the description of this benefit specifies “on your next holiday package from Dubai”.
Here are the most important ones:
- Enjoy peace of mind the next time you fly with an additional 5/10 Kgs of checked-in baggage allowance. This benefit is not limited to bookings made via emirates.com.
- Enjoy 2/5/10 single entries for you or your guests to selected Business Class lounges in Dubai and Emirates lounges across the network during your subscription period. *Not limited to bookings made via emirates.com.
- Spend 20% less Skywards Miles when you treat yourself to an Upgrade Reward on Emirates flights booked via emirates.com during your Skywards+ subscription period.
- Enjoy a one-time 20% discount on a Classic Reward flight when you book on the emirates.com desktop site.
- Earn 20% more Skywards Miles on Emirates flights booked on emirates.com and on flydubai flights during your Skywards+ subscription period.
- Earn 20% more Tier Miles (Premium Package only) on Emirates flights booked on emirates.com and flydubai flights during your Skywards+ subscription period making it easier for you to maintain your current tier or achieve the next tier.
Skywards+ subscriptions are valid for 12 months and will expire on the last day of the twelfth month. For example, if your subscription started on 1 November, it will expire on 31 October the following year.
Obviously, the more you fly, the more you can use these benefits, but chances are you *might* have already acquired some kind of Emirates status through that activity already, so this package wouldn’t make that much sense anymore. It would definitely give a good jump start without status, though.
Another angle is the award benefits, for example, when transferring miles from a credit card partner. The 20% award discount can be huge, considering EK awards are not cheap.
Conclusion
Emirates Skywards Plus is an interesting program considering you can simply buy your benefits and they will be valid for an entire year. I have a feeling this makes most sense for someone who has a lot of award flights in order to utilize the 20% discount on upgrades and awards.
Also, if you travel frequently in Economy Class but have no status yet then this Skywards+ package is a good way to get extra privileges from additional baggage allowance to lounge access (lounge passes are limited).
What I kinda miss here is priority check-in, but well, I guess you can’t have everything. But for $1000 under the Premium package I think there should be a little more.
Have you tried Skywards+ before?
