ITA Airways yesterday launched a limited-time status match opportunity (read more here) from 7 Oneworld airlines + Oman Air, which is in the process of joining, and Emirates. The match is valid through June 10, 2025.

ITA Airways is in the process of joining the Star Alliance (read more here) after Lufthansa took a 41% stake, but it still has limited benefits with select SkyTeam airlines (read more here).

You can access ITA Airways here.

Match Process:

Although I did this same match last year, I decided to see how well it works in 2025, as I could match my Finnair Platinum status this time (used BA Gold the previous year).

You need:

  • Copy of your ID/Passport
  • Copy of your membership card from one of the eligible airlines

You also need to have an ITA Airways Volare account.

You can find the status match option on your Volare Dashboard.

You need to choose the airline whose status you intend to match.

You then need to choose your status with that airline.

You also need to upload a copy of your ID or passport and proof of your status with the matched airline. I took a screenshot of my Finnair Plus account dashboard, which showed the status and its expiration.

You then need to accept the match terms.

You are then presented with a screen that shows the request number, which you can use if you need to contact Volare about the match.

Once the status match has been successfully submitted, the match box is no longer visible in your account dashboard.

I did all of the above yesterday, when I wrote the piece about this match to see how it works this time around.

To my surprise, the match had already been approved once I logged in this morning.

Conclusion

It is unclear what happens to the Volare status when the airline joins the Star Alliance.

The Miles&More is used by all Lufthansa Group Airlines (Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, etc.) and LOT.

Miles&More will obviously match the Volare status, which they are already doing (read more here), but what happens with these matched tiers is unclear.
