Zaslav On The DCU’s Four Shining Hopes

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has named Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl as the four key characters for his company’s future DC Universe plans.

The DC Universe got underway back in December with the animated “Creature Commandos” series, which is being followed by James Gunn’s “Superman” movie and then the second season of “Peacemaker” in August.

Participating in a Warner Bros. Discovery quarterly earnings call, Zaslav dubbed the four the “main characters” who will be the DCU’s “big asset builders”. He says (via CBM):

“It’s important for us to be able to sell our content to third parties [but] as we look at our titles, there are many that are really just for Warner Bros.

When you look at the major characters with – that James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing with their ten-year plan around DC, that is to build asset value for us globally everywhere in the world, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Supergirl. So those are – we look at those as big asset builders and big differentiators.”

While “Superman” and “Supergirl” already have movies coming, when the other two will appear in live-action form in the DCU isn’t clear. There is a Batman film titled “The Brave and The Bold” in the works but is still in development.

Same goes for the TV series “Paradise Lost” set on Wonder Woman’s home – the island of Themyscira – but that is reportedly a prequel set before she was born. On the Wonder Woman front, Gunn was recently asked for an update on her appearance in the DCU, and he responded via Threads: “Not to be shared publicly yet but yes. Encouraging”.

Hopefully DC Studios co-chief Gunn will be able to offer more insight when he begins his “Superman” promotional rounds shortly.
