Red Dead Redemption 2 Native PS5 Port Rumor Crops Up Again

Rumors surrounding a native PS5 port for Rockstar Games‘ critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 have popped up once again. This time, it comes alongside claims of a Nintendo Switch 2 version reportedly releasing this year.

Is Red Dead Redemption 2 getting a native PS5 port?

According to Gamereactor‘s sources, who are close to Rockstar, Red Dead Redemption 2 is heading to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and is slated to come this year. Additionally, the outlet claims that a “next-gen upgrade patch” for the game could release alongside or slightly after its Nintendo Switch 2 launch. This patch would improve graphics and performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Reports of a native PS5 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 have been around for quite some time now. Back in October last year, a Rockstar Games employee mentioned “Red Dead Redemption PS5/Switch” on their LinkedIn profile. While this could be interpreted as the first entry, which did get a release on Nintendo Switch, that port was for the PS4. Specifically mentioning PS5 had fans wondering if the employee was referring to Red Dead Redemption 2.

Earlier than that, back in September 2023, an internal Microsoft document corroborated rumors of a native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S port of Red Dead Redemption 2. However, there were also rumors that the port was canceled by Rockstar Games. This particular document seemed to confirm that the company did can the project. But with the new information given today, it seems the port may still be alive.

While it may seem like a home run for Rockstar Games to release a native PS5 port for Red Dead Redemption 2, take this information with a grain of salt. Rumors about this port have been swirling for years now, and the game has yet to arrive on current-gen consoles. We’ll just have to wait and see if these rumors become fact.
