British Airways Executive Club has yet another IT problem which prevents members from using their Avios miles to book award flights either online or through the hotline.
While members just receive a nondescript error message, managers with BAEC say it will only be fixed by tonight or tomorrow without any guarantees.
That British Airways operated on a third world standard as far as IT infrastructure is concerned is nothing new but it has become way too frequent in recent times and shows that the management has really given up on providing any kind of proper service.
I was asked about this first by a reader last night and then when I tried to make some bookings this morning I verified that it’s indeed impossible to book tickets under BAEC Avios for the time being.
When you try to book Avios flights then you get all the way to the Passenger Details screen:
But as soon as you try to continue to submit payment for your booking the trusty BA error message appears.
I tried several devices to verify the issue, computer, cellphone browser, cellphone app. Nothing worked.
I then called British Airways and talked first to a regular agent, then to a manager. The manager said that they are having problems with this all day and nobody knows when it will be fixed.
British Airways Executive Club is unable to book anything via the phone in a manual fashion either. Everything is down and while I was told that several tickets were opened already, who knows when BA’s IT minions in Bangalore are able to fix it.
This is especially annoying, as airlines like Cathay Pacific and BA block these awards less than five days before departure. Meaning if you’re planning to book something for next Sunday, it’s bye-bye award ticket if they don’t fix it today.
One option to get around it would be to move your Avios to Qatar Airways and then book on their platform which might actually be cheaper than through BA, however that’s only possible with your own miles and not those in the household account.
Conclusion
Once again, British Airways has IT issues and BAEC members can’t use their Avios miles to book any award ticket. Not online, not on the phone. They have truly given up, and while this is totally unacceptable, it has become the standard for BA. Business as usual, nothing to see here. Just another day in crazy town.
It’s unbelievable how in 2025 a major airline gets away with such a shabby IT infrastructure without heads rolling at the top.
Who else has had enough of BA and their incompetence?
