Someone finally united the Kims on stage and that someone was John Mulaney. The second episode of his Netflix talk show Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney boasted two indie rock icons — Kim Gordon and Kim Deal — and they clearly knew what they had so they played with audience expectations. The series doesn’t play by typical talk show rules and after the opening monologue, John introduced Gordon, wearing a “GULF OF MEXICO” shirt, and her band who played “Bye Bye” from 2024’s The Collective. Then, after a comedy bit with announcer Richard Kind, John introduced Kim Deal and her band who played the title track from last year’s Nobody Loves You More.

The show was saving the best for last, though. At the end of the episode, which was about cruise ships, after appearances by Ben Stiller, Nick Kroll, Quinta Brunson, and cruise ship industry expert Anne Kalosh (oh, also Silk the Shocker), John introduced the joint forces of the Kims “performing together for the first time, anywhere.” They played Sonic Youth‘s Washing Machine single “Little Trouble Girl,” which Kim sang backup on but never performed it with the band live.

You can watch a too brief clip that Netflix shared below and watch the whole episode of Everybody’s Live here.

Kim Deal is currently on her solo tour which hit NYC last week. Kim Gordon has a few live dates lined up for the spring.

Real question, though. Why isn’t The Kims a tour?
