Imprint Films Collects Shaw Brothers Horror Films in ‘Shaw-Shock’ Blu-ray Box Set

Australia’s Imprint Films will release Shaw-Shock: Shaw Brothers Horror Collection Volume One on May 28.

The Blu-ray box set includes three of the influential Hong Kong studio’s genre films: The Oily Maniac, Seeding of a Ghost, and Sex Beyond the Grave.

1976’s The Oily Maniac (0riginal title: You gui zi) is directed by Ho Meng-hua, written by Chua Lam, and stars Danny Lee, Chen Ping, Hua Lun, and Hsieh Wang.

Legal assistant Shen Yuan follows the directions of an ancient spell, hoping to defend his lifelong love, Yue Yang-Ba. He digs a hole, climbs into the thick black liquid he uncovers, and quickly transforms into an oily monster, taking down criminals and leaving behind a trail of destruction.

1983’s Seeding of a Ghost (original title: Zhong gui) is directed by Chuan Yang, written by Lam Yee Hung, and stars Phillip Ko, Maria Yuen, and Norman Chui.

A Hong Kong taxi driver is cursed by a sorcerer. After his wife is raped and killed by teenage hooligans, he makes a pact with evil forces to unleash revenge and bring his wife back from the dead…

1984’s Sex Beyond the Grave (original title: Fung lau yuen gwai) is directed by Chun Keung Chiu and Tai-Heng Li, written by the Shaw Brothers Creative Group, and stars Tony Liu, Wai Yee Chin, Mabel Kwong, and Kuan-Chung Ku.

A woman is raped and murdered during World War II. 40 years later she returns to haunt her persecutors from the Tao Tao Mansion. A professor and his family move into the house, only to have the spirits take their son.
