Lionsgate Teases “Hunger,” “Now,” Not “Michael”

Lionsgate held its CinemaCon presentation this morning in Las Vegas and with it came some updates that went beyond the various updates to the “John Wick” franchise.

Now You See Me 3
The third film in the magician heist movie franchise has undergone a title change and will now be called “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” when it opens in cinemas November 14th. In addition, the studio confirmed that a fourth entry in the franchise is in the works.

The title will bring back a number of other actors from the franchise, including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman and are joined by Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt and Rosamund Pike in this outing.

Michael
One key surprise was the lack of anything to do with Antoine Fuqua’s “Michael,” with the title barely mentioned and the film showing off no publicity material. That marks a contrast from last year where a first look at footage was shown while the film was still in production.

Reports emerged earlier this year indicating the third act of the movie may have to be reshot due to some legal issues but sources close to the production denied those reports. The project is currently scheduled to hit cinemas on October 3rd this year, but many in the industry seem pretty sure the film will be delayed to 2026.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
An official video showing off the logo for the new prequel “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” was released and has since gone online. In addition it was announced that acclaimed scribe Billy Ray (“Captain Phillips,” “Shattered Glass”) is writing the script.

The new film is set 24 years before the events of the original and follows the younger version of Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch Abernathy who won the 50th Hunger Games – the only District 12 victor until Katniss Everdeen. No casting is yet set for the film which opens November 20th 2026.

The Long Walk
Next, a September 12th release date has been set for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Long Walk” with Mark Hamill starring as the film’s villain and Francis Lawrence directing. Judy Greer, Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Garrett Wareing, Roman Griffin Davis and Joshua Odjick co-star

The story follows 100 teenage boys who embark on an annual walking competition. They have to maintain a speed above 4 miles per hour – slow down and get a warning, slow down three times in an hour and get shot with the winner being the last one walking.
