Multiple New “John Wick” Films Planned

Lionsgate used its CinemaCon presentation this morning to lay out the future of its “John Wick” franchise.

After showing off a bunch of footage from this year’s upcoming spin-off feature “Ballerina,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson confirmed that “John Wick: Chapter 5” is officially moving forward with the next main film in the series.

In addition, they confirm both Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski wil both return for the movie, as will producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. Fogelson also indicates the creative team have settled on a story, allowing this to proceed:

“Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world. We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”

Iwanyk and Lee also gave a joint statement saying: “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”

Also confirmed is “Caine,” the spin-off film with Donnie Yen reprising his role from the fourth film. Yen will both direct and star and the film will be stylistically akin to Yen’s Hong Kong action films.

Newly announced is a prequel anime movie is in the works. Directed by Shannon Tindle, it follows John Wick killing all of his rivals in one night to free himself from the High Table. Reeves will lend his voice to the project.

“John Wick: Chapter 4” hit theaters in 2023 and grossed over $440 million at the global box office.
