A bunch of photos are out from two upcoming films starring British actor Josh O’Connor (“Challengers,” “The Crown,” “Lee,” “God’s Own Country”), and both are being distributed by MUBI.
The first is “The History of Sound,” a World War I-set drama based on Ben Shattuck’s award-winning short story. “Gladiator II” star Paul Mescal plays Lionel, a man who falls for his music student David (O’Connor).
Years later, the pair reunite and go on a mission to record the traditional music rooted in the backwoods of Maine – engaging in a love affair while collecting music. MUBI will premiere the film at Cannes later this month ahead of a theatrical release.
Also out are shots of O’Connor and Alana Haim (“Licorice Pizza,” “One Battle After Another”) in Kelly Reichardt’s new crime-drama film “The Mastermind” which will premiere at Cannes next month.
The story involves an audacious art heist in New England in 1970, set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and the country’s burgeoning women’s liberation movement. John Magaro, Hope Davis, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann and Amanda Plummer co-star.
O’Connor will also be seen later this year alongside Daniel Craig in the next “Knives Out” film “Wake Up Dead Man” and is one of the main stars of Steven Spielberg’s new directorial effort opening Summer 2026.
