13 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

PERENNIAL – “PERENNIAL ’65”

New England art punks Perennial announced a ’60s-inspired new EP, Perennial ’65, and shared the title track, which they call “Perennial trying to write the 15th track for Rubber Soul. We wanted something with a bit more of that Maximum R&B groove.”

GELO – “CAN YOU PLEASE” (ft. GLORILLA)

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Gelo is the rap moniker of LiAngelo Ball, who first reached the public eye as a basketball player alongside his brothers Lonzo and LaMelo, who are now both in the NBA. LiAngelo was briefly signed to the Detroit Pistons but never ended up playing, but his rap career is really taking off. His recent single “Tweaker” is massive, and it led to LiAngelo signing to Def Jam and nabbing Lil Wayne for a remix of the song. Now he collaborated with another famous rapper, GloRilla, on his followup single to “Tweaker.” It’s called “Can You Please,” and like “Tweaker,” it’s a melodic Southern rap anthem that induces more than a little 2000s nostalgia. Also like “Tweaker,” it’s pretty undeniable.

VALERIE JUNE – “SWEET THINGS JUST FOR YOU”

Valerie June’s new album Owls, Omens, and Oracles arrives in April, and she’s given us another early taste with “Sweet Things Just For You.” “In a time when wellness and self-improvement have become a $4.5 trillion-dollar industry, many of us are hungry for a more profound spiritual solution for sustainable change,” she says. “The truth is wellness cannot be purchased at our local health-food store. Wellness and mindfulness are actions. It is how we relate to one another, nature and our environment. Whether we are singing a song, sharing our art, waiting tables, cleaning houses, writing policies, cuddling loved ones, or building bridges, how do we show up for each other with the spirit of sweetness in every move? We spend our whole lives toiling, and what is the spirit of our service? Though it seems easy, I’ve found it to be super challenging to practice sweetness, especially when we are facing the hurdles of the modern world. So, what does it take to recognize our superpowers and activate them for good? What sweet things can you do for someone else today?”

VARIOUS ARTISTS – FARTHER THAN EVER BEFORE – A TRIBUTE TO TRANSATLANTICISM

A handful of screamo, metalcore, and post-hardcore bands, including The Holy Ghost Tabernacle Choir, Dreamwell, Hidden Mothers, Drought, Dying Whale, Funeral Homes, and Like Father, have come together for a heavy, chaotic tribute to Death Cab for Cutie’s Transatlanticism.
