According to new Barside Buzz Clayface has script issues and Sgt. Rock may have had budget issues as DC Studios takes a hit. The information all comes from industry insider Jeff Sneider on the latest edition of The Hot Mic.
Sneider reports that Mike Flanagan only write a “skeleton script” for Clayface and has now moved on to an upcoming Carrie TV series. Sneider says this is forcing DC Studios into a page one rewrite. Given the movie was greenlit based on the strength of this script….what does this mean? Is Clayface in trouble? Does it just need to be shelved until Flanagan can come back round to it?
Sneider says this is one of several problems that the fledgling DC Studios is facing. He strongly indicates the whole idea of DC Studios may be revisited depending upon the reception of James Gunn’s Superman.

Sneider also claims it was the budget which caused Sgt. Rock to be cancelled. Which is not what the trades repotrted, (see link above). Sneider says the budget was cut on director Luca Guadagnino. He claims the budget, initially $70m was dropped by $5m leaving Guadagnino feeling unable to achieve his vision for the film. I know 5 mil is a lot of money, but it does seem a small amount to completely pull out of the movie for. Maybe I’m wring about that having never made a movie myself.
Sneider claims time is running out for DC Studios to have a movie ready for late 2026, early 2027. Superman of course hits this July and then we have Supergirl next year. However, I think it’s obvious the plan was not initially supposed to be one film per year only.
So, what do you think of these rumors that Clayface script issues and Sgt. Rock budget issues have hit DC Studios? Thoughts below as usual.
