Some fans may have noticed and wondered, well now Tony Gilroy explains why Bail Organa was recast for Andor Season 2. Bail doesn’t have a big role in Season 2 Part 2 (4-6). However, the change will at least be noticed next week when Bail’s role in the story deepens. As you all know Jimmy Smits has played Bail Organa since Revenge of the Sith and been more than happy to return when needed in the role. Yet, there is Benjamin Bratt playing Bail in Andor Season 2.
Speaking with EW, Andor showrunner Gilroy explains why?
“We couldn’t work it out,” Gilroy tells Entertainment Weekly. “The scheduling didn’t work out. We really tried hard, but he wasn’t available and couldn’t make it. Bringing back legacy characters is really complicated,” Gilroy notes. “It’s very expensive. It’s very, who’s working when. A lot of effort went into it, but we just couldn’t work it out scheduling wise.”

Gilroy explains it was Kathy Kennedy who came up with Bratt and why he introduced him a week early.
“Kathy had the idea for Benjamin,” Gilroy reveals. “It was just a brilliant idea. He’s a wonderful human being and really eager and beloved on set and really happy about what he does. I put him in episode 6 in an arbitrary way so people will get the conversation out of the way until the next week when he really starts to work. It’s one of those situations where I want to do something simple. We don’t do many things that are unnecessary, but it’s like, ‘Let’s get him in here now so people can discuss it for a week and get it out of their system and then he can come back to really work.’ I didn’t want the guy’s work to be confused with his introduction.”
I guess I will wait till next week to really judge Bratt in the role. However, it’s Bail Organa, so it’s not like recasting Luke is it? I mean Bail is kind of a tertiary character in the franchise despite being an important character in the Universe. I guess what I’m really saying is, when Andor is this good, I really don’t care.
