PSA: PS5 Pro Is Now Cheaper Than Xbox Series X 2TB Console

Today, Microsoft announced it is increasing the prices of Xbox products across the board. Consoles, controllers, headsets, and video games from the green gaming brand will see markups as early as today, May 1.

Will PS5 prices go up after Microsoft raised Xbox console prices?

The company announced it is adjusting the recommended retailer pricing for consoles and controllers worldwide starting today. Headsets are also getting a price increase, but only in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, beginning this holiday season, “some” Xbox first-party titles will be $79.99, a $10 increase from the once-standard $69.99 price point.

A more in-depth reason for these adjustments is not given. However, Microsoft credits the current “market conditions” and the “rising cost of development” as key drivers to these adjustments.

Here are the newly adjusted prices for Xbox consoles and controllers in the U.S.:

• Xbox Series S 1 TB : $429.99
• Xbox Series X Digital: $549.99
• Xbox Series X: $599.99
• Xbox Series X 2 TB Galaxy Black Special Edition: $729.99
• Xbox Wireless Controller (Core): $64.99
• Xbox Wireless Controller (Color): $69.99
• Xbox Wireless Controller – Special Edition: $79.99
• Xbox Wireless Controller – Limited Edition: $89.99
• Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core): $149.99
• Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full): $199.99
• Xbox Stereo Headset: $64.99
• Xbox Wireless Headset: $119.99

These price increases for Xbox consoles are pretty significant, especially for the X series, which sees an increase of $100 for the digital and standard models. The 2TB model price increased by $130, making it more expensive than the PS5 Pro, which costs $699.99.

As of this writing, Sony has not increased the price of its PS5 or PS5 Pro. However, it’s not entirely out of the question. Last year, the company increased the price of its current-gen console in Japan. That adjustment has not yet made its way to the U.S. just yet. We’ll just have to wait and see how the company reacts throughout the year.
