Microsoft has announced price increases starting this holiday season for its Xbox products, including Xbox Game Studios titles now being priced at $79.99 U.S. dollars – the first major game price hike in five years.
In addition, the Xbox Series X console will get a $100 price increase to $599.99, while the Xbox Series S will jump to $379.99 & $429.99 depending on the model’s hard drive size.
Accessories like controllers and headsets are also seeing price increases. The game price rise to $80 is in line with “Mario Kart World” on the Nintendo Switch 2 which will cost $79.99 at launch.
The Xbox console and controller price increases will also impact other continents like Europe and Australia. Microsoft last hiked the price of its Xbox Series X console in June 2023.
The price rises come as uncertainty still hovers over the Trump tariffs impact, and as Microsoft announced on a quarterly earnings call it had “ended the quarter as the top publisher by preorders and preinstalls on both Xbox and PlayStation Store”.
PC Game Pass revenue also reportedly saw increases by 45% year-over-year. Game Pass pricing has not been impacted by this new round of changes.
