Gellar Slays “Buffy” Revival Character Rumors

Former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star Sarah Michelle Gellar has shot down recent reports regarding the upcoming revival of the series.

Specifically, the report in question hit TV Line in March and claimed to offer first character details for the upcoming Hulu reboot.

Three characters were seemingly revealed, including a “Willow-esque” 16-year-old lead slayer character named Nova, a wealthy nerd named Hugo, and a vampire expert named Gracie.

Gellar shot that down pretty succinctly this week, telling Elite Daily it’s complete bull: “Those are all fake characters. That thing that got released is all fake.”

Gellar remains the only confirmed cast member. Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao will direct and executive produce alongside Gellar, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzi, and Dolly Parton. Of Zhao, Gellar has nothing but high praise:

“Every pitch I heard was just like, ‘Let’s just do Buffy again.’ Why? But the passion that [Zhao] came to me with, what she wanted to do with the show and the character, and why Buffy is needed now – it was the first time where I thought, ‘OK, there’s a reason.’ We’ve been at this for three-and-a-half, maybe four years now. We won’t do it unless it’s 100% right and there’s 100% a reason.”

Joss Whedon created the original show, which lasted for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003. He’s not involved in the reboot which remains in development at Hulu.
