A sequel to the Tom Hanks-led WWII submarine thriller “Greyhound” is in the works, with Apple Studios lining up a January 2026 filming start in Sydney, Australia.
Based on C.S. Forester’s 1955 novel “The Good Shepherd,” the first film starred Hanks as a U.S. navel commander on his first assignment leading a multi-national escort destroyer group of four.
He and his crew must defend an Allied convoy from a German submarine wolf pack during the Battle of the Atlantic. Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Elisabeth Shue co-starred.
Hanks will reprise his role as Captain Krause in the sequel and has also penned the script. Filmmaker Aaron Schneider returns as director, producer Gary Goetzman is also back via Hanks’ production company label Playtone.
The new film will see Krause and the Greyhound crew now on patrol in the Pacific as they help turn the tide of the war. Talks are underway with other key cast from the first movie to reprise their roles, including the much in-demand Graham.
Playtone and Apple previously collaborated on the first film and the mini-series “Masters of the Air”.
